The IDEA Center at Austin College boasts two astronomical observatories, the Adams Observatory on the roof and the IDEA Solar Observatory in the Page Atrium. Both facilities provide extraordinary opportunities for teaching, undergraduate research, and public events.

Undergraduate students gain “out-of-this-world” research experience using cutting-edge astronomical equipment. They make new discoveries and learn techniques used at professional observatories around the globe.
Dr. David Baker, Co-Director of the Adams Observatory, is a planetary scientist and author of The 50 Most Extreme Places in Our Solar System.
Dr. David Whelan, Co-Director of the Adams Observatory, is an astronomer who pursues research on intermediate- and high-mass stars.
